Writing Project Rules

Participants of the Golden Books Project will receive FREE membership to our private and safe online platform for individual (ages 50+) to be connected, inspired and to join activity groups.


Eligibility:

- Entrants must be an individual (ages 50+). An exception to the minimum age rule may be considered on a case-by-case basis, for applicants with disabilities.
- Entrants must be a legal resident of Canada (preferably of BC) to receive royalties.
- The topic of your story/article must be pre-approved with the organizers.
- Only single author (no co-authored) stories/articles are permitted.

Writing Process and Deadlines:

Writing process and deadline vary for each book. Apply right away to get a spot to contribute to the book of your choice.

It is still possible to participate as an author and get published.


Story/Article Format:

- Story/article topic must be related to one of the 7 book topics, and pre-approved by the organizers. Your story/article will be contributing one chapter to one of the 7 planned books.
- Story/article must be inspirational, positive and/or educational. Developing hope and resilience despite obstacles and hardship is encouraged.
- Your final manuscript must be saved in the DOCX format.
- Don’t use clichés, for example; “in the nick of time”, “head over heels”.
- Don’t use idioms, for example; “stabbed in the back”, “costs an arm and a leg”
- Use short sentences. Most nonfiction is written at an eighth grade reading level.
- Use short paragraphs. Nothing turns off a reader more than an imposing block of text staring them in the face. 


Word Count:

- 2000 - 2500 words.
- If wanting to include pictures/graphics, a small charge per picture/graphic is needed from the author to offset the extra publishing cost.
